How do I work with you?
I use The Human Givens (HG) Approach. HG therapy is grounded in an understanding of what all human beings need to feel physically and emotionally well. This approach puts you at the heart of everything we do and it allows you to be in fully involved in the therapeutic process, after all you are the expert in yourself!
Using techniques based on the latest neuroscience and drawing on the best of solution focused, person centred and cognitive behavioural therapy as well as clinical hypnotherapy, we will work together to make a plan to help you use your unique resources so that session by session, you leave feeling a little better, more hopeful and confident about your ability to recover and make the changes you need to create a life that works for you.
I do not encourage you to repeatedly visit painful memories or dig into your past as this has been shown to be unhelpful. Rather, I listen carefully to what has led you to seek support and, most importantly, to what it is you would like to change, so I can help you to explore what might be missing from your current life and find solutions, strategies and coping techniques that allow you to regain control over your future.
If you are troubled by trauma, I will help you to move on from this using safe and proven techniques to help your brain process those memories so you can leave those distressing times where they belong – in the past. As we work together, you will learn tools and techniques that help you to take back control over strong emotions, so you can return to thinking clearly and make good decisions about your future.
Therapy doesn’t have to be a painful or lengthy process – indeed it is my aim, using the HG approach, to help you move your life on as quickly and as effectively as possible while at a pace that is individual to your practical and therapeutic needs.
